What our tutors think
"I've been a tutor for the last 5 years, and usually found my students through word-of-mouth. I loved the draw of Sherpa since they quickly find new clients for you, handle your bookings and take the awkwardness out of payments. I've found an ideal part-time job!"

FAQs
Feel free to get in touch if you have any further questions, or want to know more about how Sherpa works.
Sherpa is an online tutoring platform that connects qualified and experienced tutors to thousands of available students online. We provide all of the necessary tools, a state of the art online classroom, a seamless messaging/booking service and a secure payment method.
Fill out the short application process with the link above, it takes roughly 10-15 minutes. We ask a few basic questions then we leave you to set up your online teaching profile. Once this has been completed one of us will be in touch within one working day to invite you to interview with us.
Throughout the process you will be given more information about becoming an online tutor and how to use the website. It usually takes successful applicants 3 working days from the start of their application to being live on the site.
The Sherpa site is orientated around qualified UK teachers who are looking for an online teaching job - private tutors who have over 2 years tuition experience and wow us in the application process can also be accepted. We operate background checks on DBS and teaching certificates.
Your online teaching profile will appear on our site and is your chance to show potential students your knowledge and experience.
Information to include would be relevant details such as:
Your teaching and online tutoring experience, where you have taught before, what age group and level i.e Primary, 11+, GCSE, A-level or beyond…
What relevant qualifications you may have. It is worth mentioning which degree you have at undergraduate or postgraduate level. Teaching qualifications and teaching certificates such as a PGCE, QTS or language specific certificates like a CELTA, TESOL or 120 hour TEFL certificate.
Which subjects you are able to teach and at what levels. Students usually come onto the site and scan through online tutor profiles so it would be worth including the subjects that you focus on in an obvious position. For example:
“The subjects I offer:
Maths - KS3, GCSE
Physics - GCSE, A-level”
Finally, don’t forget the way it looks and is laid out is also very important. Go for short, well written paragraphs rather than long chunks of text. Your picture should be smiley and approachable to attract students but smart and presentable, just how you would appear in a school setting.
All you need is your laptop and a strong WiFi or internet connection. We use the interview as a chance to make sure that everything is set up correctly so that nothing will interrupt your online teaching experience.
During your interview you will be shown around the online whiteboard, to get to grips with its many functions such as screen sharing ability, and told how to use the website.
We offer a range of subjects on Sherpa from Primary, KS3, GCSE, A-level and Degree level.
While you have the option for any matching up of different subjects and levels, most lessons on Sherpa are around the core subjects in the exam years, for example:
Teach Maths online at GCSE and A-level
Teach English Literature and Language online at GCSE and A-level
Teach Physics/Biology/Chemistry online at GCSE and A-level
Teach English as a Foreign Language online
The Sherpa interview is a short chat on our online whiteboard that gives us a chance to get to know you better, show you around the website and let you know why we are the best online tutoring site out there.
After the interview you have the ability to correspond with one of our team and they will help you with your online profile so that nothing is stopping you becoming a tutor with us.
Tutors on Sherpa are able to work part-time or full time to fit work around their own schedule. Most lessons take place in the evenings after school or at the weekends.
Sherpa is an online platform for students to meet online tutors therefore all Sherpa tutors have flexibility in choosing their own rates. The fee which you select during the application process is the fee that appears on the front of your profile on the site.
Sherpa charges a 28% platform fee on each online lesson. This is lower than the majority of similar platforms and covers the cost of the website upkeep, marketing efforts and access to our industry-leading online classroom.
